Program Engagement Facilitators

The USask Museum of Natural Sciences invites applications for Program Engagement Facilitators for our Dinosaur Camps.

The USask Museum of Natural Sciences tells the story of evolution on Earth through exhibits and displays that include dinosaur replicas, fossils, live animals and plants, rocks, and minerals. Through the use of play, dramatic and visual arts, Dinosaur Camp will engage children ages 6-10 in exhibits and hands-on programming to examine the flora and fauna of the Paleozoic – Mesozoic – Cenozoic Eras.

Length of assignment: 9 weeks – June 23 to August 22, 2025

Rate of pay: $20 per hour 

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am-4:30pm and/or 8:30am – 4:00pm for 37.5 hours per week

Location: USask Museum of Natural Sciences

Education:

This position is open to undergraduate students and recent alumni. USask graduate students are not eligible. Candidates will have knowledge and interest in geology, paleontology, biology and/or ecology through high school, college, or university programs.

Experience: 

Demonstrated ability to engage children’s groups ages 6-10 in informal settings such as outdoors and museums. Candidates should be enthusiastic, conscientious, and responsible. They should also have good verbal communication skills, and be committed to learning and improving throughout the course of employment. Familiarity with Indigenous knowledge and culture would be an asset.

Experiences in the following are important assets: 

  • Creative Play – using props and games to facilitate learning and understanding of topical concepts.
  • Dramatic Arts – theatre, puppetry, storytelling, and music.
  • Visual Arts – drawing, painting, sculpting, and digital.

Duties: 

Anchored in geology, paleontology, biology, and ecology, Dinosaur Camp will engage participants in science, art, and culture, and encourage them to be curious and creative. Working in a highly collaborative setting, the program engagement facilitator will assist the camp coordinator in the smooth running of eight week-long summer camps with 32 kids per camp by helping plan and facilitate daily science, art, and culture activities, and lead campers on excursions to other locations on campus. There is a ratio of one leader to a group of eight campers.

  • Work in a collaborative team setting.
  • Constant evaluation of programs and provide constructive criticism to enhance program experience.
  • Research skills and writing skills.
  • Engaging youth and demonstrate adaptability and patience.
  • Deliver programs with a creative mindset and able to direct the energy of youth 6-10 years in positive directions.

Other:

  • REQUIRED - Police check and vulnerable sector search (upon hiring documentation is required)
  • First Aid certification is an asset
  • Occupational Health and Safety certification is an asset
