A Day at AMAC

The Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camps cover a variety of topics and themes relating to ancient and medieval history. The goal of these week-long camps is to spark a love for history, art, and learning in camp participants through an exciting week of lessons, games, crafts, stories, and more in a safe and inclusive environment.

Each week of camp is built around a different theme, and each day of the week has a more focused topic relating to the broader camp theme. Camp hours are from 9:00 AM-3:30 PM, with an hour's break for lunch at noon and shorter snack breaks in the morning and afternoon. Each day includes three or four short lessons with corresponding crafts and activities.

Weather permitting, we try to spend as much time outside as possible. Each day includes at least two longer periods of outside time, plus several shorter body breaks to do inside between lessons or crafts.

What to Bring

Here is a checklist of everything that you should send with your child to camp each day:

  • A nut-free* lunch including a refillable water bottle and snacks for the morning and afternoon. Campers are not allowed to leave the premises to purchase lunch on campus during the lunch hour.
  • Sunscreen and bug repellent.
  • Weather-appropriate clothing, including a hat, jacket, and footwear suitable for outdoor activities.
  • Costumes! If your child has a costume related to the theme of the camp that they would like to wear, feel free to send it with them!

*Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camps spaces are nut-free. Even if there are no nut allergies disclosed for any campers in your child's week of camp and all camp surfaces and supplies are sanitized at the end of each day and more thoroughly at the end of each week, we want to prevent residual contamination on classroom surfaces and supplies from week to week. If there are any other campers who have serious allergies disclosed by their parent/guardian in the registration form in your child's week of camp, an email will be send out the week before the camp begins notifying you of any other allergens to look out for when packing lunches.

Dropoff/Pickup

Where/When

Location: TBD

Dropoff time: 9:00 AM

Pickup time: 3:30 PM

Parking

Parking on the University of Saskatchewan campus is either paid lot or metered parking. To avoid tickets or fines, please ensure that you have paid for enough time to walk to the classroom and sign your child in/out.

There are two metered parking loops available for drop-off/pick-up:

  • In front of the Administration Building on Administration Place.
  • On the south side of the Agriculture Building at the end of Science Place.

There is one paid lot available to park in:

  • Public Parking Lot 3, located just off of Campus Drive in front of the Physical Activity Complex.

Each of these lots and parking loops are marked by signs indicating public parking. If you need further directions about parking for Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camps please contact the Museum office.

Signing In/Out

Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camp policy includes a sign-in/sign-out process for picking up and dropping off your child(ren) wherein you must physically sign a form indicating that you have dropped off/picked up your child(ren) and at what time. This is to ensure that each child is dropped off and picked up not only at the correct time, but also by a person that has been authorized by you, the parent or guardian, to be responsible for your child(ren). Camp staff will have a sign-in/sign-out form for each camper that will include a list of the names of the people who you have indicated in your online registration form as being an emergency contact, someone authorized to pick up your child(ren) from camp, or both.

When you arrive on the morning on the first day of camp, you will be required to confirm the contact information of any persons listed on the form, and have the opportunity to add anyone if your plans for pick up/drop off have changed in the time since you registered your child(ren) for camp. At the end of the first day of camp we will require photo ID from anyone picking up your child(ren), as well as later in the week if someone who has not previously arrived for pick up/drop off arrives to do so. Please remind anyone who might be involved in pick up/drop off of this policy so that the process is as smooth as possible.

Extended Care

Details

Extended Care is included in the registration fee. Families can take advantage of the extended care hours to their own discretion. Extended Care drop off may be between 8:00am-9:00am and Extended Care pick up may be between 3:30pm-5:00pm.

Policy

The Museum of Antiquities and Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camp staff are not responsible for any child(ren) on campus prior to 8:00am or after 5:00pm. Any child(ren) who is dropped off before 8:00am without having been signed in by an adult or has not been picked up by 5:00pm without the parent/guardian contacting the Museum of Antiquities will be considered abandoned and Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camp staff will contact Campus Protective Services, who will take things from there. Of course, emergencies happen, so if something unexpected occurs and you will be a few minutes late, please contact the Museum office so that we can make arrangements such that your child(ren) will not be left alone after 5:00pm. If the Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camp staff find that this emergency policy is being taken advantage of and your child(ren) is consistently being picked up/dropped off early or late, we reserve the right to contact Campus Protective Services regardless of whether or not you have contacted the Museum office.

Camp Policy

Cancellations and Refunds

A $50 non-refundable fee will be applied if a cancellation is made outside of 30 days prior to the start date of the camp. Cancellation within 30 days of the start date of the camp will result in the Museum of Antiquities retaining $100.00 from the registration fee and the remainder will be refunded. No refund will be given once the camp has started.

Three Strike Policy

During their week at the Ancient & Medieval Adventures Camp Program, children are to comply with the three-strike policy.  This policy concerns children exhibiting excessively disruptive or violent behavior, including but not limited to: verbal, emotional, or physical abuse of fellow participants, Summer Camp leaders or volunteers, consistent refusal to adhere to safety guidelines and Summer Camp rules, and willful damage to personal, Summer Camp, or Museum of Antiquities property. The first two times a child acts inappropriately, the child will receive a warning and the parents will be informed about the behavior.  The third time an incident occurs, the parents will be contacted and the child will be removed from the program. There will be no refund of Summer Camp fees if this occurs.
