About the exhibition:
Funny and provocative, Danielle Siemens’ (BFA'14) new work unearths the common issues and daily experiences of prairie life that are habitually glossed over by a culture that takes pride in its spotless reputation.

The exhibition title takes its cue from the inherently ambivalent definition of propaganda: helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person through the spreading of ideas, information, or rumour. From this perspective, Prairie Propaganda doesn’t literally work as counter-propaganda. Rather it exposes underbellies to paint a rounder picture of prairie culture: a culture that is rich, droll and contradictory.

Danielle Siemens’ artwork has been exhibited in both Canada and the US. She graduated with her BFA in Studio Art in 2014, with a focus on painting, drawing and multimedia.
