Into the Wild

I create impressionistic and intuitive art that focuses on my bond with nature.  The acrylic and mixed media art that I find joy in creating conveys exciting feelings with the use of light, colour and texture and a hint of abstraction.  The components in my work are already embedded in nature itself.

Being immersed in nature, my explorations, and hikes amongst the giant old growth forests on Vancouver Island, confirms my spiritual awareness with the natural world.   I find contentment in taking photos, capturing the light and texture of many of my favourite trees like Douglas Firs, Western Red Cedars, Bigleaf Maples and Hemlocks.   I home in on the photographs, transposing my perspective into my landscape pieces, bringing the awe of the natural world to the viewers of my work.  Like they are there in the forest too, seeing the sunlight hitting scattered layers of green foliage through gaps in the forest canopy overhead.

My hope is that my work reminds humanity that we are a natural entity, being completely and fully part of nature.

Robyn Audra Phipps is a Saskatoon based acrylic and mixed media artist who was born and raised in SW Ontario.  She was always doodling in math class, daydreaming, and drawing horses, dogs, and subjects in the natural world.

Art was the outlet to get her visions out of her head and onto paper or canvas.  Drawing in pencil and ink (or whatever was in the pencil case at the time) was how she spent the bulk of her childhood art making.  In the course of her time at University of Guelph-Ridgetown Campus (Agriculture), there was a lapse of time when art didn’t transpire much.

When she moved to Saskatoon in 2008, Robyn rekindled her art exploration by painting with acrylics.  Soon after, she discovered the University of Saskatchewan Community Arts program.  She started taking classes, reviewing the basics of acrylic painting, adding in the discovery of mixed media and abstract work.  This led her on an exciting path to where she is with her artwork today.
