Stillness
“If there is a voice within you saying that you cannot paint, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” - Vincent Van Gogh.
It is life’s moments of silence, in contemplation of the restful stillness of water, the deep calm after a storm, the accord of nature, a love that knows no bounds, that enable us to give pause in search for tranquility, and deep within, that voice can be silenced. And with that silence comes a deep mystical moment of serenity, accompanied by a profound dignity where joy, harmony, and peace meet.

Darlene Clarke lives in the RM of North Qu’Appelle. A retired educator, she was raised on a farm in Manitoba, influenced by aspen woodlands and nature’s wonders. Painting primarily in watercolours for 25 years and pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) for nearly 50 years, more recently she has enjoyed exploring acrylics, graphite, and sketching with ink and watercolour, always leaning toward the flora and fauna of her childhood. Darlene is a member of the Qu’Appelle Valley Art Guild and an Associate Member of the Canadian Painters in Watercolour.
