Colleen Watson-Turner BEd
Watercolour and Gouache PaintingColleen Watson-Turner has worked as an educator and artist in multiple forms and expressions for several decades. She paints in watercolour, gouache, acrylic and oil pastel; is a photographer and a published poet. She has also handcrafted artisanal chocolates, designed three-tiered wedding cakes, and sewn beaded moccasins.
Colleen Watson-Turner was born and raised on the edge of the southern prairie, beside Thunder Creek and in view of the Missouri-Coteau hills. Though she has lived much of her adult life near northern forests and lakes, the prairie has always called her home. Colleen has dedicated her life to wandering and wondering in wild nature.
Colleen has worked as an artist in multiple forms and expressions for several decades. Her work spans painting, photography, and poetry. She has also handcrafted artisanal chocolates, designed three-tiered wedding cakes, and sewn beaded moccasins.
Colleen holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program/University of Saskatchewan. She taught literacy skills in the primary division and fine arts in the middle-grades.
While living in remote communities, Colleen completed university and non-university classes in a variety of disciplines through distance education. Since moving back to Saskatoon, she has taken many of the art classes on offer through USask’s Community Arts program.

Colleen on teaching: I believe I am as much a student of art as I am a teacher of art. I am committed to the concept of the creative commons where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their artistic potential within a vibrant, supportive, skill-sharing community. Making art is not just a practice, but a way of moving through the world.
