Learn the fundamentals of clay sculpture in this skill-building course. Students will study the proportions and anatomical features of the face, as they model the ear, mouth, nose, and eye. Beginning with simple forms and gradually refining detail, students may utilize Greek plaster casts as guides to understanding structure and interpreting expression, or develop their own interpretational strategy. Technical development is emphasized, with optional opportunities for further exploration through quick portrait studies or mask-making. This course is suitable for people who are new to sculpture, returning from a hiatus, or seeking to expand their artistic repertoire.
