Paper Studio: Contemporary Practices

Paper is a remarkably versatile medium which has been part of artmaking experiences worldwide for centuries. This course will focus on contemporary paper art trends which have roots in traditional practices. Paper studio projects will include papercutting (single sheet cuts using scissors or knife); papier collé (cut, glued and layered two-dimensional artworks); three-dimensional constructed works such as paper flowers, and folded works like origami and concertina books. Each class will include inspirations, demonstrations and guided creation, in a supportive atmosphere where all supplies are included.

  • Introduction to papercutting

  • Flowers and dimensional works
  • Miniature dimensional scenes
  • Concertina books: folding and embellishing
