Artistic Kickstart: Beginning Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Printmaking & Photography

A fine art exploration for those looking to engage with a variety of art mediums. Each week, students will create artworks using different techniques, materials, and concepts within the major disciplines of the fine arts, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking.  This course is suitable for people who are new to artmaking, returning after a break, or seeking to expand their repertoire. 

Note: While the structure of the Artistic Jumpstart and Artistic Kickstart classes are similar, projects are not the same. Topics, media and/or techniques and concepts covered are different. Students who enjoy trying a variety of art topics are welcome to take both classes, in sequence or simultaneously.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to drawing with coloured pencil: still life fruit
  • Introduction to drawing with pen and ink: landscape
  • Introduction to drawing with brush and ink: flowers
  • Introduction to drawing with oil pastel: still life
  • Introduction to sculpture with clay: small objects and relief sculpture
  • Introduction to sculpture with paper clay: playing with 3-D construction
  • Introduction to painting with watercolour: illustration and composition
  • Introduction to painting with acrylic: landscape
  • Introduction to printmaking: relief stamps and tetra-pak intaglio
  • Introduction to photography: storytelling with composition

Supplies

  • Mobile device (cell phone or tablet) with integrated camera or digital camera (DSL, mirrorless, compact, etc)
  • All tools and consumable materials for use in studio are included
  • Apron or workshirt to protect clothes
