Donna-Lee May

2024 Community Arts and Artisanship Certificate Graduate

Donna-Lee is from Sturgeon County, AB. She is now retired after spending 40 years as a financial advisor.  30 years ago, she rediscovered her passion for Space & Science as an amateur astronomer. She draws inspiration from the night sky in her new-found love as a multi-medium artist. Over the last five years she has returned to university to complete her degree in Fine Arts, and to fulfill a promise to her sister Rita to continue in the arts. Donna-Lee was pleased to find the University of Saskatchewan community Arts Program, to assist her in her goal of continuing in the arts. Her sister taught her to use art as therapy.  Sadly, Rita lost her battle with Covid-19.  Donna-Lee continues to use art as therapy, to practice her skills in her favourite mediums clay, stained glass and acrylic, watercolors & oil painting.  Her paintings are inspired by Kandinsky, Chagall, Munch and others and she often repaints their works to learn their techniques and inspirations more deeply.  Her work is often themed by her background in Space, Science & Astronomy and representing the beauty and diversity of objects in the night sky. Donna-Lee highly recommends the program to anyone who wants to hone their skills as an artist.
