Betty Gibbon

2024 Community Arts and Artisanship Certificate Graduate

Betty Gibbon has been working with fused glass for more than a decade and continues to learn, experiment and discover new techniques, while exploring a variety of styles. Her current passion is painting with enamels on recycled glass, primarily in an abstract manner.

“The challenge of working with glass is addictive. The intensity of colour, the complexities of heating and cooling, the precision required to cut odd shapes, thick glass or deep curves. What materials can I add – paint, enamels, copper, mica? My mind wanders through all of the possibilities and is happy.”

“Complexity” is a series exploring the challenges of maintaining a nation’s boundaries and culture while facing forces from other powers. The weight of the world is heavy right now and it was important to me to acknowledge the complicated political relationships, or lack thereof that continue to create the unrest that we live with on our fragile home, Earth.
