Photography I: Basic Techniques and Fundamentals

This class is designed to explore the basics of photography, including understanding your camera, controlling light, and building a repertoire of composition techniques. Through a combination of hands on photowalks, classroom studio sessions, discussion and critique, students will have the opportunity to develop the tools needed to master the art of the image.

  • Introduction to camera controls
  • Building towards manual control
  • Basic photographic composition
  • Intermediate composition
  • Using natural light
  • Using artificial light
  • Lighting different surfaces
  • Basic portraiture study (the head shot)
  • Basic landscape study
  • Introduction to Lightroom Classic (processing)

Supplies

A camera/lens, such as DSLR or mirrorless

Please note: you may use a mobile or compact digital camera, but the controls on these are
somewhat limited for some activities.
