Title: Homological manifestations of amenability
Abstract: Since its inception in the early 1900's, amenability has become a truly central notion in mathematical analysis, with particular importance to the fields of Banach and operator algebras. After a brief history, we will present an overview of various homological approaches to the study of amenable locally compact groups. We then finish with some recent results, which, in particular, clarify a connection between groups and operator algebras dating back to the 1970's.
