Title: Matrix problems and quiver representations
Abstract:
I will tell the story of how a simple visualization tool, namely
directed graphs (quivers), provides a unified approach to ideas from
classical linear algebra to modern representation theory. The talk is
intended to be completely expository, with the goal of progressing from a
brief recollection of Jordan and Smith normal forms to simple statements of
some of the major theorems about finite-dimensional algebras from the 1970s.
I hope it will be suitable for both graduate students and also
mathematicians more advanced in their careers.
