In December 2015, the Trudeau-led Liberal government designated marijuana legalization as a priority during its first “speech from the throne.”
This effort will be neither simple nor straightforward. As Colorado, Washington, and other US states have demonstrated, major social, political, and policy-based questions will need to be addressed in the near and long-term.
This conference on cannabis in Canada is intended to tackle national hurdles, but also confront the provincial implications of the Trudeau government’s promise.
Who would regulate and control recreational marijuana in Saskatchewan? How would it be marketed to potential patients and average consumers? How would the province’s medical cannabis industry be affected by legalization? And what sort of health outcomes could we expect?
