Glass Art I: Fused Glass Basics

Prerequisite: None

In this workshop, students will gain elementary knowledge of kiln-formed glass. Participants will learn the basics of glass fusing, and work with a variety of glass materials. The elementary knowledge of kiln-formed glass will include fundamental fusing terminology, techniques, and principles as well as an introduction to glass fusing equipment and firing schedules. Each student will complete one-of-a-kind pieces of art. The completed fired pieces will be available for pick-up the following week.

  • Complete a clean straight and curved cut
  • Plan and design a glass pattern
  • How glass responds to heat
  • Glass kiln operation
  • Basic fusing processes
  • Operate a glass grinder
  • Complete a 2 layer single design layer project
  • Complete a 2 design 2 layer project

Supplies

The materials fee is for the coloured glass and use of the tools and kilns during the workshop. In addition, there are a few other things that will make your time with Elisabeth and Robert more productive. If you have them, please bring:

  • Blank paper
  • Ruler
  • Pencil & erasure
  • 2-3 coloured thin markers
  • Straight edge scissors
  • Paper towel
  • Glass cleaner
  • Safety glasses
