About the event

Stryker Calvez
Dr. Stryker Calvez (PhD) is manager of Indigenous Education Initiatives at the University of Saskatchewan.

The University of Saskatchewan has been a leader in building reconciliation since before the TRC’s Calls to Action were released in 2015. This institution has a varied past that is filled with powerful examples and role models who have made many of our current accomplishments possible. However, like the land our campus sits upon, the path to Indigenization has been filled with ups and downs. As a community, we need to acknowledge our accomplishments, embrace our failures and commit to growing individually and together as we search for a better future for our children. Dr. Calvez will explore the journey that many of us are on, discussing the insights he has been gifted by sitting with many Indigenous and allied colleagues on campus and beyond. The goal of this presentation is not to provide answers or how-to guides, but to tell his story as a Metis man whose heart and soul believes in this land and its ability to nurture us all, if we let it.
