Speaker: Dr. Mark Adler (Brandeis University)
Date / Time: Friday, October 19th @ 1:00 P.M.
Location: McLean 242.1
Title: Non-convex lozenge tilings and skew Young tableaux
Abstract: In this somewhat more specialized talk, we will explain how non-convexity in tiling problems, in particular a lozenge tiling problem, has a profound effect on the statistics of the problem. We first discuss the combinatorics and then a large scale limit, both reflecting the role of the non-convexity. There will be lots of pictures to explain things.
Note for Grad Students: Attendance will not be taken, but interested graduate students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
