Explore the expressive nature of high flow acrylics and inks, learn niche techniques and apply them to exercises that may include landscape, abstract, poster and cover designs and portraits. Add spontaneity and new energy to your creative practice with this workshop.

Silversmithing: Basic Skills for Silver Jewelry

Learn to design and create your own jewelry.  Learn the basics of using traditional hand tools.

This workshop covers:

  • Annealing and soldering
  • Using a jewelers saw
  • Layout, drilling holes, measuring etc
  • Using a rolling mill
  • Texturizing with hand, burs, rolling mill etc
  • Tool care
  • Finishing and polishing
  • Design concepts
  • Safety in the jewelry studio

Tool kit and silver required, and is purchased at the time of registration. You will receive the tools and silver in class.

Lifestyle Photography

Prerequisite: Working knowledge of your own DSLR camera.

Learn how to capture natural and creative lifestyle portraits in this hands-on workshop. With an on-location (on campus) photo shoot demo, students will learn how to shoot using natural light, creating relaxed posing, incorporating compositional elements, working candidly and becoming comfortable behind the camera. Students should have a working knowledge of their own DSLR camera.

Contemporary Digital Art

Prerequisite: none

Learn how to create unique digital artworks in Adobe Photoshop CC. Students will explore a variety of image input and photomontage techniques, and  be inspired by examples of contemporary digital art. No Photoshop experience required. Computer and software provided.

Glass Art: Vitrigraph Stringers

Prerequisite: None

Painting with glass! Learn how to shape and manoeuvre a stream of flowing glass "stringers" from a vitrigraph kiln. Kiln safety, setup and loading are integral components of this course. Each student will complete a one-of-a-kind vitrigraph painting and/or functional piece of glass art to be picked up the following week.

Glass Art: Introduction to Glass Fusion

Prerequisite: None however, glass cutting experience is an asset

Work with a variety of glass materials and learn the basics of glass fusing. Gain foundational knowledge of kiln formed glass including terminology, techniques, and principles as well as an introduction to glass fusing equipment and firing schedules. Each student will complete a number of smaller one-of-a-kind pieces of art.

Watercolour: Beginner to Advanced

Prerequisite: none

Explore different watercolour processes beginning with the tradition of British painting, and move on to approaches such as dry brush and wet on wet.  Use of colours, brushes, papers and colour theory with fundamentals of composition will be covered.
