Fibre Art Explorations (weekly class)

Experiment with a wide variety of materials that may include fabric, wool, plastic, wire, paper, thread or materials of your choosing. Explore flat and sculptural designs through both conventional and unconventional techniques such as weaving, fabric collage, dye, screen printing, felting, needlework etc.

Glass: Introduction to Glass Fusion (1 weekend)

Learn the basics of glass fusing and work with a variety of glass materials. Gain elementary knowledge of kiln formed glass including terminology, techniques and principles as well as an introduction to glass fusing equipment and firing schedules. Each student will complete a number of smaller one-of-a-kind pieces of art.

Glass: Vitrigraph Stringers (1 weekend)

Painting with glass. Learn how to shape and manoeuvre a stream of flowing glass "stringers" from a vitrigraph kiln. Kiln safety, setup and loading are integral components of this course. Each student will complete a one-of-a-kind vitrigraph painting and/or functional piece of glass art to be picked up the following week.

Silversmithing: Basic Skills for Silver Jewelry (1 weekend)

Design and create your own silver jewelry while learning the basics of using traditional hand tools.

This workshop covers:

  • Annealing and soldering
  • Using a jewelers saw
  • Layout, drilling holes, measuring etc
  • Using a rolling mill
  • Testuring; by hand, burs, rolling mill etc
  • Tool care
  • Finishing and polishing
  • Design concepts with a slide show of some contemporary jewelers pieces
  • Safety in the jewelry studio

Silversmithing: Advanced Skills for Silver Jewelry (1 weekend workshop)

Prerequisite: Silversmithing: Basic Skills for Silver Jewelry

Design a more complex piece of one-of-a-kind silver jewelry building on skills from the beginner class with a focus on finishing your design. Techniques for making simple settings and how to secure gemstones and pearls will be introduced.
