Satya P. Sharma is an associate professor of anthropology in the Department of Religion and Culture at the University of Saskatchewan. Although he comes from an artistic family, he  began painting only four years ago. His  brother,  sister and late wife are all established artists. From a very young age he developed appreciation for art and music. Human faces, figures and  actions have always intrigued him, perhaps because he has been anthropologist for 52 years.

The paintings in the exhibition are oil on canvas in varying sizes, with two major themes: individual portraits and people involved in their daily activities primarily in a rural setting of India. In terms of style, the paintings are mostly realistic with only a limited degree of abstraction.
