College alumni nab National Newspaper Award nominations

Two alumni from the College of Arts & Science are among the 70 nominated finalists for the 68th National Newspaper Awards competition. Dawn Dumont (BA’95) and Brian Gable (BA’70) were selected from 959 entries for work published in 2016.

Dumont was nominated for commentary from the perspective of an Indigenous woman embracing her heritage published in the Saskatoon StarPhoenix. One of her pieces, "Speaking up: How one Saskatchewan writer and comedian found her voice," appeared in the college's alumni magazine Arts&Science in 2016.

Gable, an editorial cartoonist for the Globe and Mail, is a finalist for the 16th time. He has won six previous awards. Gable is among the College of Arts & Science Alumni of Influence.

Nominated entries can be viewed at the NNA website at nna-ccj.ca. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Toronto on Friday, May 5.
