Big Data is reshaping the records that everyday people generate, reshaping the nature of historical research and expanding society’s collective memory. With expanding tools and resources, this new documentary era requires an in depth conversation about the ethical implications, technical requirements, gathering mechanisms and access provisions related to these emerging methodologies. Useful historical information is being preserved at mind-boggling and expanding rates. This talk explores the current state of web archiving, highlighting several projects led by the University of Waterloo-based Web Archives for Historical Research Group, as well as future directions. www.ianmilligan.ca
