Alumna authors shortlisted for Governor General’s Awards
Lorna Crozier and Sharon Butala are finalists for prestigious Canadian literary prizes
College of Arts & Science alumnae Sharon Butala and Lorna Crozier are finalists for the 2017 Governor General’s Literary Awards, some of Canada’s top awards in writing.
Butala (BEd'62, BA'63, PGD'73, Honorary DLet’04) is nominated in the nonfiction category for Where I Live Now: A Journey through Love and Loss to Healing and Hope. The book is a memoir of the author’s process of grieving and healing following the loss of her husband. Butala is the author of 18 books and the recipient of many awards, including the Marian Engel Award.
Lorna Crozier (BA'69, Educ'70, Honorary DLet'07) is nominated in the poetry category for What the Soul Doesn’t Want, a collection of poems about aging and grief. Crozier is the author of 17 books of poetry whose past honours include a Governor General’s Award and the Pat Lowther Award.
Both Butala and Crozier are among the College of Arts & Science’s alumni of influence.
