Sinan grew up in Xiangfan, Hubei in central China. He enrolled in College of Life Sciences, Wuhan University in 2010. Beginning in his second year, Sinan was an undergraduate member and volunteer of Fuxiang Xu's lab at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he worked on the olfactory neurobiology of mice. During this time, he developed an interest in studying the neural mechanisms of animal behaviours. He obtained his B.Sc. (Honours) in Biology in 2014, and moved to Saskatoon soon afterwards. Currently he is conducting a project that focuses on loosely-tethered flying locusts’ collision avoidance behaviours in complex visual environments (and struggling to survive the frigid Saskatchewan winter!). Sinan is also a lab demonstrator for BIOL 120 – Nature of Life.
