Top Ten from English Department's One-of-a-kind Vinyl Event

The Department of English held a ONE-OF-A-KIND VINYL EVENT on Wednesday 26 October. Louis’ Loft was the backdrop for the department and its friends to gather as aficionados of English and to enjoy a final spin of selected poetry, prose, and drama, as chosen through an online vote. It was a very successful last hurrah for our vinyl collection, much of which was sold to raise funds for the English Undergraduate Society and the graduate students' English Course Council. Thanks to all who voted and attended!

The top ten recordings as selected by our invitees:

1. Edgar Allan Poe, from “The Tell-Tale Heart
2. Robert Frost, “The Road Not Taken”
3. Emily Dickinson, “This is my letter to the world" and "The soul selects her own society"
4. Joseph Conrad, from Heart of Darkness
5. Anthony Burgess, from A Clockwork Orange
6. Margaret Atwood, “The Animals in that Country”
7. Oscar Wilde, from The Importance of Being Earnest
8. William Shakespeare, Sonnet 87: “Farewell, thou art too dear for my possessing”
9. William Blake, “The Lamb” and “The Tyger”
10. Gwendolyn Brooks, “We Real Cool” and “Malcolm X”
